In Guildford at the University of Surrey we hold some of our Community Meditation Sessions on Sundays, the weekly Silent Sessions, and Family sessions. NBW films and lectures are nearby in a modern lecture theatre. If you are new to NBW please attend our introductory class first: Newcomers & Beginners Class. This Class is open to citizens as well as the university's staff and students and is held only in Woking. To be sure any particular Guldford event is here rather than at The Spike community centre, Guildford see our weekly Newsletter or write to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Directions to The Quiet Centre [Not all our Guildford events are held here]
Please try to arrive early so as not to disturb the others. It will take 10-15 mins to walk from your car to the session or meeting at The Quiet Centre. We suggest you PRINT THIS AND BRING WITH YOU.
Venue: The Quiet Centre, University of Surrey, Stag Hill, Guildford.
Parking: See the downloadable map below. On the map the GSA car park is at the left boundary, and the Quiet Centre is marked “QC” at the bottom boundary to the left of centre.
Walking Directions: Drive to the gyratory roundabout in front of Guildford Cathedral, turn into the University (not the Cathedral) at the large stag statue, proceed 150 yards, then at first Building on left (GSA) and mini-roundabout turn left into the car park (free on weekends). Walk from car is 10 minutes. From GSA car park cross the road, go through the traffic barrier, walk 150 yards up the straight road, turn right into BBC car park, go to top left of that car park, and climb steps up behind buildings bearing right (towards the Cathedral on other side of boundary) and you should see the small round building which is the Quiet Centre (QC).
This walk will take about 20 minutes. Leave the station by the back exit onto Guildford Park Rd and turn right. Walk uphill along Guildford Park Road, past Rupert Rd on right, and at second right turn into leafy 'Guildford Park Church' (which leads to car park). Walk about 200 yds.
Then walk through the car park to the far side, and enter the university campus through the vehicle entrance. Keep walking straight along the campus road for about 200 yards until you reach a large aluminium ship-shaped building (Duke of Kent Building). Follow the road to the right of that building for about 200 yards more until you see a tall, blue-framed building on your left, with an office marked 'Security' on the ground floor.
Here it would be best to look at one of the campus maps on a wall of signboard and/or go into the friendly Security office at the Senate Building and ask them for directions to the Quiet Centre, saying that you are attending a Chaplaincy Event there. The Quiet Centre is a round building, near to "Guildford, Cathedral and Twyford Courts".
To get to the University campus follow the directions given above. Once on the campus, this is how to reach Lecture Theatre B, to attend NBW Film Nights, etc. (Note that NBW Film Nights are only open to staff and students of the University and to citizens who are already participants in NBW Meditation sessions.) PRINT THIS AND BRING WITH YOU.
Go to the main entrance of the University Library, but do not enter the library. As you face the entrance, walk right alongside the Library about 30 yards until you see three yellow-topped concrete bollards. Go through the bollards, down the two flights of steps, and at the bottom turn left. You will immediately see a BT phone box. Go through the glass door on the left of the phone box and then into the large reception area of the Lecture Theatre block. You will see "Lecture Theatre B" signposted, directing you to the right hand side. If lost, ask any student.
